Animal Services emphasizes education and prevention in the cases of public nuisances. The procedure is to alert the pet owner that neighbors are disturbed by their dog and or cat and ask the owner to stop the disturbance.

Once we have made contact with the pet owner and advised them of the law, and if neighbors continue to experience and witness the nuisances, Animal Services can issue a $148.00 citation based upon at least two signed public nuisance animal forms from unrelated people living in separate dwellings from one surrounding area. Citizens that sign these statements must be willing to appear in court to testify if the citation is contested. They must be filled out completely and signed. Both parties should begin documentation on the same date and continue to document for the entire week. The time of the offense, the address, where to offense took place, as well as the type of offense must also be listed.

The documents should then be mailed to Animal Services together. Animal Services will determine if the statements contain enough information to warrant a citation.
