How long will the project last?
The project duration is expected to be about 8 months.

Where will the project start?
The contractor has elected to start nourishment at the north end of the project. The first pipeline "landing" will come ashore near Dan's Island in the "Sand Key" section of Clearwater. Additional landing locations in Indian Rocks Beach, Indian Shores, and Redington Shores have yet to be finalized. See the Construction Details for a slide show of the tentative plan for construction equipment on the beach.

Which beaches will be nourished?
The project will nourish nearly 9 miles of beach from the “Sand Key” portion of Clearwater south to the Tides in North Redington Beach.  The project includes the communities of Sand Key (Clearwater), Belleair Beach, Indian Rocks Beach, Indian Shores, Redington Shores and North Redington Beach.  The project does not include Belleair Shores due to the lack of public access there.

Where does the sand come from?
Sand will be dredged from Egmont Shoals (Refer to Construction Details for more info). This is the same location that was used in the 1998-99 beach nourishment project (Refer to Project History for more information).

How much sand will be placed?
1.2 million cubic yards of sand will be placed along nearly 9 miles of beach. That's enough sand to fill the football field at Raymond James Stadium higher than the tallest building in downtown Tampa!

How will this project affect turtles?
See Environmental Impacts.
