The Pinellas County Department of Environmental Management, Tampa Bay Estuary Program, Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council, and the city of Clearwater hosted a workshop for scientists and public officials on March 30th, 2007. The workshop was designed to establish a baseline of available information about the contributing watersheds and the ecological resources of the St. Joseph Sound/Clearwater Harbor marine systems. Additionally, gaps in knowledge and data for these systems were identified and steps proposed to develop a comprehensive management plan for them. Topics covered included: past, present and future land use, seagrass distribution and abundance, water quality/TMDL issues, status of existing management plans, wildlife populations, shoreline and pass erosion issues, Anclote River studies, and other topics of ecological interest. The workshop opened with remarks by
Ronnie E. Duncan, Chairman, Board of County Commissioners.
