Adoptions
make everyone smile at Animal Services! With your
help adoptions have quadrupled in the past five years.
Loving families adopted 3,400 pets last year. For
$35- or less you can choose a dog or cat to be a
part of your family! Adoptable animals will be vaccinated
and sterilized prior to moving to their new homes.
Animal Services addresses animal welfare and overpopulation
issues, encourages responsible pet ownership, and
provides a Shelter & Adoption Center for lost
or homeless animals. The center responds to approximately 900 calls from citizens
daily, provides public awareness programs, promotes animal adoptions, and coordinates
emergency programs affecting animals or people via animals. The Shelter & Adoption
Center is open to the public six days a week. An
Animal Welfare Trust Fund has been established
to provide extra services, such as special food,
needed by some animals but not provided for in
the department's budget. This Trust Fund is supported
by donations from caring citizens.
