Business Process Analysis/Reengineering

A formal definition of "Business Process Reengineering" is the fundamental rethinking and redesign of business processes to achieve improvements in critical contemporary measures of performance such as costs, quality, service and cycle time. For practical purposes, "Business Process Reengineering" identifies the manner in which we should organize our work flow activities, given the demands of today's environment, today's customer and the power of modern technology.

The most important element of the definition of Business Process Reengineering is "process". A business process is a collection of tasks and activities that come together to produce a specific result. The desired result will not be realized, however, if the component tasks and activities are governed by a work flow process that is inefficient or inadequate. Business Process Reengineering, then, determines what an organization is responsible for producing, and then designs an effective and efficient workflow process in order to facilitate the realization of that goal.
