Exciting New Location for Old Electronics.
Pinellas County residents can now enjoy a sparkling new Household Electronics and Chemical Collection Center (HEC3) which has replaced the outdated, open air facility. With the growth in volume from 25,000 pounds in 1992 to last year’s almost 2.5 million pounds, the capacity of the old facility was overwhelmed. The new center has more storage and is easier for residents to navigate. [ press release ] Franchised Waste Collection. The Board of County Commissioners (BCC) has adopted a resolution which begins the three year process of establishing franchise solid waste collection. At a minimum, if approved at all stages of development, residential waste collection services would be provided to all the unincorporated county, and franchises would be awarded to one or more haulers. Unincorporated residents currently choose from a list of independent haulers and contract for services individually. Pinellas County Utilities Rate Changes Approved. Changes to Pinellas County Utilities wholesale and retail sewer and water rates, and retail reclaimed water rates have been approved by the Board of county Commissioners. The new rates are effective October 1, 2009. [ more info The Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD) voted to reduce water restrictions in the Tampa Bay Water service area by returning to the Modified Phase III (Extreme) Water Shortage restrictions for potable water use. Lawn watering is still limited to once-per-week, but the watering times were expanded. Other restrictions, such as pressure washing, have been eased. [ Water restrictions ] New Recycling Drop-Off Center in East Lake. Recycling just got easier for Palm Harbor residents with the opening of a new recycling center at the East Lake Community Library. The new East Lake Recycling Drop-Off Center is located in the parking lot of the East Lake Community Library, 4125 East Lake Rd., Palm Harbor. [ press release ] Utilities Unveils New Web Feature Watering Restriction Links for Pinellas Cities. Pinellas County Utilities has developed a new Web link making it easier to access watering restriction information for residents of individual cities and municipalities. This is awarded to utilities that meet specific operational criteria with a high level of integrity.
